App-Jam 2021 is the latest in the CSUN student Jam competitions. App-Jam presented student teams with resources and tools to solve real-world challenges pertaining to the year’s challenge: to use a variety of technologies and tools to design, ideate, and demonstrate a custom web or mobile application to improve communication between friends, families, colleagues, and communities. Teams used tools and services to create a solution for communication issues. Students learned about app design concepts and had access to resources to compete against other student teams.

Attend the March 5 Kickoff event
At least one team member is required to attend the kickoff, but that’s not the only reason to come! The App-Jam team will be there and will be able to help you find the tools you need to make your project the best it can be.

Join a team
Create or join a team of students to compete. App-Jam involves some milestones that will be submitted throughout the competition, and learning resources will be provided by experts from on-campus and from industry.

Plan your Project
At the kickoff, you will learn about the challenges for App-Jam. Take that information and begin to plan your project and get started!

Learn and Build
Use the resources in Canvas, and support from the community and cloud experts to bring your idea to life. If you’re not a programmer, you can absolutely still participate! Many of the cloud tools can be operated in a web interface, and in conjunction with the resources in Canvas, you can piece together a feasible idea without having to write a line of code!

Create a deliverable
Teams will also upload a deliverable demonstrating how their project could work. This deliverable should highlight how your project addresses the challenge, and how you used the cloud to make it all work.

Present at the April 2 showcase
App-Jam culminates in a showcase, where judges will be on-hand to evaluate your project based on the practicality and creativity of your projects.

Win!
Winners will be announced at the showcase, where prizes and awards will be given to the winners.
