CSUN Will Host Southwest Seminar in Continental Philosophy

The Philosophy Department is excited to announce that the 2017 Southwest Seminar in Continental Philosophy will take place at CSUN June 8-10, 2017! Dr. Lisa Guenther (Vanderbilt University) and Dr. Talia Mae Bettcher (California State University Los Angeles) will give keynote addresses. 

Dr. Lisa Guenther is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. She is an expert in phenomenology, feminist philosophy, and mass incarceration. She is currently working on a book that explores the structural and historical connections between reproductive politics and the politics of mass incarceration and capital punishment in the United States. 

Dr. Talia Bettcher is Professor of Philosophy at California State University Los Angeles. Much of her work flows from her personal experience as a trans woman and through being actively involved in in trans community subcultures and grass-roots organizing in Los Angeles. She is the author of Berkeley: A Guide for the Perplexed and the editor of a special issue of Hypatia on Trans Studies and Feminism.
