Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, died after being arrested by Iranian morality police in Tehran on September 13, 2022 for allegedly violating a state mandate requiring women to cover their hair. Since Ms. Amini’s death, many protesters have taken to the streets in Iran demanding an end to state violence and policing.
