Morateynu Alissa Thomas-NewbornPushing the Boundaries from Within

Morateynu Alissa Thomas-Newborn, L.A.’s first congregational Orthodox female “rabbi”

Morateynu Alissa is the first Orthodox woman to serve as a clergy member in Los Angeles.  She serves with Rabbi Yosef Kanefsky at Congregation B’nai David-Judea Congregation.  She was ordained from the Yeshivat Maharat, Orthodox women's rabbinical school.  Although she uses the title "Morateynu", our teacher, she is working in her synagogue as a full spiritual leader.  She will explain the restrictions placed on women that she respects and will also share her trailblazing leadership in the Modern Orthodox world.
