The theme this year, Re-imagining the New: Preceding Encounters, Novel Antidotes, celebrates the sacrifices of those who fought for a Black Studies department, and those who continue to struggle and advocate for change, in new and innovative ways. CDSC 10th Anniversary Celebration

This event celebrates CDSC’s tenth anniversary, grounding the initiative’s origins in student activism. CSUN alumni Dr. José Gómez, Jonnae Thompson, and Justin Marks were organizers of the March 4, 2010 student mobilization against tuition/fee hikes during the Great Recession and for undocumented students. The three alumni will speak about the March 4th mobilization, the LAPD crackdown of the protest and arrest of six of the marchers, and the subsequent legal struggle to have charges dropped.
