Tam Tran Goes to Washington

The 2018 Theater for Youth production examines an American experience through a special Asian American story. In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we honor the legacy of Vietnamese American scholar, filmmaker, and undocumented youth activist - Tam Tran. Demonstrating a keen intellect and focused passion, Tam studied hard in public high school, and subsequently flourished as an undergraduate at UCLA. Confronted with deportation, Tam continued her academic and professional goals while advocating for passage of the DREAM Act

Dr. Tracy Buenavista will facilitate the Q&A Panel with actors from the play to discuss undocumented student issues, and Mr. Tung Nguyen, founder of APIROC (Asians & Pacific Islanders Re Entry of Orange County) to discuss the deportations of Southeast Asian refugees.

Co-sponsors: the Department of Asian American Studies, the Office of Equity and Diversity, the University Student Union, the Office of Student Affairs, the College of Humanities, Civil Discourse and Social Change, EOP-Dream Center, Oviatt Library, and the Asian American Studies Pathways Project.
