Please join the Department of Africana Studies in celebrating our 51^st Anniversary and as we kick off Africana Studies Week 2020. The theme this year, Re-imagining the New: Preceding Encounters, Novel Antidotes, celebrates the sacrifices of those who fought for a Black Studies department, and those who continue to struggle and advocate for change, in new and innovative ways. This event celebrates CDSC’s tenth anniversary, grounding the initiative’s origins in student activism. CSUN alumni Dr. José Gómez, Jonnae Thompson, and Justin Marks were organizers of the March 4, 2010 student mobilization against tuition/fee hikes during the Great Recession and for undocumented students. The three alumni will speak about the March 4^th mobilization, the LAPD crackdown of the protest and arrest of six of the marchers, and the subsequent legal struggle to have charges dropped. Read more
