Comics and Visual Culture 2018, a symposium, will take place at California State University, Northridge on Saturday, March 10, at the University Student Union. Put on by the Comics@CSUN group, this free, public event highlights student research into comic art, visual media, and popular culture. It is a sequel to a symposium of the same name in 2016. This Friday, February 9th, at 7:00 PM in Jerome Richfield Hall, Room 319, The Reimagining Narrative Film Series returns with a special screening of David Lynch & Mark Frost’s “Twin Peaks: The Return, Part 8.” As Noel Murray puts it in his New York Times review, “There’s nothing to point to in the history of television that helps describe exactly what this episode attempts.” Please note: this film can be viewed as a standalone, so no prior knowledge of the show is necessary. The WhatEvery1Says Project (WE1S) co-directed by Professor Scott Kleinman has been awarded $1.1 million by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Along with co-directors Alan Liu, Professor English at UC Santa Barbara, Jeremy Douglass, Assistant Professor of English at UC Santa Barbara, and Lindsay Thomas, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Miami, Kleinman will spend the next three years studying the representation of the Humanities in public discourse.
