Overview
Internships are in a wide range of professional fields and can take place at corporations, nonprofits, in the public sector, or on campus. Internships can be paid or unpaid, remote, on-site, or hybrid. The students in our internship program are usually majoring or minoring within the College of Humanities, but we attract students from other disciplines. Students begin by applying for internships. When they secure a position that aligns with CSUN’s policies, they enroll in a credit-bearing course for the semester during which they work at an internship host site.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the role of the hosting organization? Internship host sites agree to supervise the students, establish mutually agreeable learning objectives, set a schedule, provide support and education as well as communication with the internship coordinator for the College of Humanities at CSUN. The intern’s supervisor must regularly account for the student’s hours in a signed log and complete a brief evaluation of the student’s performance.
What sort of help can I expect from the CSUN College of Humanities Internship Program when working with student interns? The internship program coordinator works with host sites to understand how to create an internship experience that aligns with CSUN’s policies and explain available opportunities to recruit students. During the semester, the internship coordinator maintains communication with the students, and periodically contacts the host site supervisors. If there is a concern with a student intern, the host site supervisor should immediately reach out to the internship coordinator.
Can an organization host new interns every semester? The most successful partnerships host new students every semester, and while we can help to facilitate those connections, we cannot guarantee from one semester to the next whether students will apply.
How can I recruit students to intern for my organization? Email your internship job posting to the internship coordinator for the College of Humanities so it can be shared directly with our incoming class of student interns. Ideally, students are hired prior to the semester for which they are interning. Employers can also share internship opportunities with the CSUN Career Center, which offers live events, and create an account on Handshake for CSUN students.
The internship job posting should be saved as a PDF and include the following information:
- Name of the hiring organization and what the organization does
- Title of the internship and the type of work that will be done
- Requirements and qualifications sought in candidates
- Rate of pay and/or if course credit is required
- Duration of internship with starting date and weekly schedule expectations
- Modality of work (in person, hybrid, remote)
- How to apply – include applicable links and contact information
