Welcome to the Department of English

Welcome to the Department of English, one of the largest and most diverse departments on campus and a part of the College of Humanities at California State University-Northridge. We offer a wide variety of courses and programs in the field of literature, language, composition, rhetoric and creative writing; on the undergraduate and graduate level. In support of the English Department mission, we are dedicated with providing students with analytical and critical thinking skills, studying British and American literature and gaining knowledge on their literary and cultural history. We will help students and cultivate their imagination while challenging them to write effectively and read critically. The faculty and staff of the Department of English are committed to helping students meet their educational goals and expects its majors, especially, to be able to write clearly and correctly.

English will host a Spring Awakening on Tuesday, February 11th, from 12:30 to 3:00pm in JR 319! There will be food, drinks, a chance for students to learn to about our student awards and English Majors and Minors. We will have our clubs: Sigma Tau Delta, Creative Writing Circle, Poetry, Northridge Review, and Professional Development.

Comics and Visual Culture 2018, a symposium, will take place at California State University, Northridge on Saturday, March 10, at the University Student Union. Put on by the Comics@CSUN group, this free, public event highlights student research into comic art, visual media, and popular culture. It is a sequel to a symposium of the same name in 2016. New Faculty: Christopher Higgs and Colleen Tripp

The department welcomes new professors Christopher Higgs and Colleen Tripp.

Christopher Higgs earned his Ph.D. in Post-1900 American Literature and Culture from Florida State University, and his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from The Ohio State University. He is the author of two novels: The Complete Works of Marvin K. Mooney (Los Angeles: Sator Press), and ONE (New York: Roof Books) in collaboration with Blake Butler and Vanessa Place, as well as two prose chapbooks: Becoming Monster (Lincoln: The Cupboard),  New Faculty continues
