Edgar Esquit is a scholar of Maya Kaqchikel origin.  His work explores Maya history and rights, the recovery of the memory of the Kaqchikel communities, and the recognition of the mechanisms through which the colonial relationships are structured over different groups and in different places, spaces, and temporalities.  He has carried out fieldwork and archival research in the towns of the central highlands and in Western Guatemala, including Comalapa, Patzicícia, Tecpán, and San José Poaquil.  He is a member of the Kaqjay Community Association in Patzicía.  He studies history and anthropology, and holds a doctorate in Social Sciences from CIESAS, in Mexico.  He is a professor of Social Anthropology and a research fellow at the Institute of Inter-Ethnic Studies at the Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala.
