Dr. Burkhart is of Cherokee descent but grew up on the Navajo Nation in Arizona. He specializes in American Indian intellectual history, environmental philosophy and justice, sacred places and development, and other issues. Dr. Burkhart's book titled Indigenzing Philosophy through the Land: A Trickster Methodology for Decolonizing Environmental Philosophy and Indigenous Futures will be published by Michigan State University Press.
