Upward Bullying: Navigating Abusive Behaviors by People with Less Authority | CSU CCC Class

Wednesday, November 1, 2023 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Location:
Online via Zoom; Connection details provided upon registration

This session is offered by CSU Channel Islands, participating with Northridge in a CSU System-Wide Professional & Personal Development Cross Campus Collaboration program.

Colleagues attending this session may hail from the Chancellor’s Office, Channel Islands, Chico, East Bay, Fresno, Humboldt, Long Beach, Monterey Bay, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, and Stanislaus.

Description:

We typically think of bullying as coming from peers and people in higher positions within an organization. But According to the Workplace Bullying Institute, 14 % of all workplace bullying in the U.S. is bullying by direct reports or people with less organizational authority. This workshop explores how to mitigate the conditions that allow this form of bullying to occur and to get through it when it does.
Participants will learn how to identify behaviors associated with upward bullying, how to engage leaders to address it, and how to use participants own power to re-orient bullying behavior toward shared goals.
The learning will be through presentation, web-based polls, and interactive discussion as a group and in breakout rooms.
