HR's Commitment to Excellence

The HR Team is committed to being current in human resource matters, serving as a model department, and being an expert resource and partner to the campus community.

As HR employees, we understand the importance of caring for, being engaged, and getting to know others strengths and capabilities.  Our internal Peer Recognition program gives an opportunity to acknowledge staff for their commitment to excellence and hard work. “Rocky the Squirrel,” HR’s mascot for the Peer Recognition program is passed to a deserving team member each month during the department’s monthly meeting. Recipients of “Rocky” have their picture displayed on the “Rocky Wall of Fame.” Staff members recognized for 2016-17 include: Heather Kennedy, Cindy Mitchell, Adrienne Napier, Robyn McKibbon, Assia Markova, Elbi Magana, Kristina Serrano, and Ian Muncal.

Staff members also actively take part in HR events aimed at creating a positive work environment.  As a department, HR members participated in the annual summer picnic, holiday celebrations, and potlucks that bring camaraderie and good cheer to staff.  To develop a commitment to professionalism, HR staff participate in a yearly retreat that builds on goals and priories of Human Resources.  HR’s successful Job Shadowing program also continued to provide employees with the opportunity to learn about the various aspects of the department.

Continuing to educate and grow in skills, HR staff regularly attend conference and training opportunities as a commitment to excellence.  Staff learn about new laws, procedures, and network with other professionals as a continued commit to providing CSUN employees with the best customer service.

HR staff also help the community in need by annually coordinating a “Holiday Donations Campaign.” In December 2016, staff came together to collect new pairs of socks for MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity).  The Holiday Donations Campaign resulted in a total of 256 new pairs of socks, 63 women, 77 girls, 58 men, and 58 boys.  The socks were added to the holiday gift baskets that MEND distributed during the holiday season to families in need.
