Spectrum U

Student Housing is excited to announce the launch of our new TV and entertainment service,  SpectrumU. SpectrumU is a streaming service provided to all residents living on-campus, with On-Demand content available with some content available while off-campus.

Residents have access to 150+ channels including sports networks. SpectrumU is available on your personal devices. Please review the information here to get connected and start streaming today!

Watch on your laptop

Go to https://watch.spectrum.net/domainsearch/
Enter our school domain, csun.edu, as shown, and click Submit. Keep in mind do not enter my.csun.edu as a domain
You will be prompted to enter you CSUN credentials. Enjoy

Watch on your device

The Spectrum app is available for download on the following platforms: 

• Android - SpectrumU
• Apple TV - SpectrumU
• iOS - SpectrumU
• Roku - SpectrumU

On three of the above platforms, install the SpectrumU app (with the blue "U" icon). On Roku, the app is called "Spectrum TV", not SpectrumU. When you launch the app, it will detect that you're on our network and automatically switch you to the SpectrumU service.

Note also that while SpectrumU is supported on Chromecast, this device will not work on our network due to the method it uses to communicate with your smartphone.

Watch on your traditional TV

To watch SpectrumU on a traditional TV, you'll need to get the app on a supported device (i.e. laptop, Apple TV, Roku) and connect via HDMI. This will also work great on a smart TV with Roku built-in. 

• SpectrumU will only work while your device is connected to the college network ("eduroam" or  "csun_prt_devices" wifi and wired in park apartments).
• If the network is connected properly, the app prompts you to CSUN authentication.  Students must login with CSUN credentials.

What is SpectrumU TV?	SpectrumU TV is a video streaming service that delivers live TV with news, sports, and entertainment in addition to on-demand television shows and movies to iOS and Android mobile devices, tablets, laptops, and desktops over an existing campus network.
How does SpectrumU TV work?	SpectrumU TV integrates with your school’s identity provider (IdP), and students gain access using their existing university credentials.
How does a user get access?	Access is gained through an app that is downloaded to your device or through a browser. For iOS and Andriod, download the spectrum U app from their app stores From a browser, go to SpectrumTV.com
Which devices are supported?	The following devices and OS version numbers are currently supported: Android smartphones and tablets running Android 5 or above iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 11 or above Kindle Fire Phone and all Kindle Fire Tablets except for the 1st generation model Mac: Safari 7 or higher, Firefox 45 or higher, or Chrome 43 or higher PC: IE 11, Chrome 43 or higher, Firefox 45 or higher, or MS Edge 12 or higher Apple TV: All fourth and fifth-generation Roku
What channels are available with SpectrumU TV?	Please see the attached lineup for CSUN
Can I upgrade or purchase additional channels?	Adding additional channels is available for individual users who create and pay for their own accounts.
Who does a SpectrumU TV user contact for support issues?	End users will first contact Student Housing Technology Services at 818-677-6114, which will determine if there is an issue with the local network. If the issue is not network-related, the university’s IT staff will engage Spectrum Enterprise Support to identify and correct issues.
How to connect your device to the CSUN network	CSUN's encrypted wireless network (Eduroam) requires a one-time login after the initial setup. Please note, this network is an additional resource and does not replace the currently available CSUN wireless network. Gaming devices (e.g., Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) and most Smart TVs and streaming media devices are not compatible with eduroam but are compatible with the unencrypted wireless network (csun_prt_devices).
