Transfer Student Week Recap 2022

Last October 17-21, the Badge Project, the Transfer Student Alliance, and the Office of Student Success hosted NationalTransfer Student Weekboth on-campus and virtually. This was CSUN’s second consecutive celebration of the nationwide event. The event kicked off on October 17th with the Transfer Breakfast. Students from all over campus were invited to Thousand Oaks Room with staff from the Badge Project to mingle over coffee and sandwiches.

All throughout the week, the START Office and HERE Center social media shared the Badge Project peer mentor stories from this year’s cohort—Shabnam Abrahams, Courtney Frazier, Crystal Lopez, and Douha Louimina.

Additionally, this year also marked the first ever CSUN Resource Scavenger Hunt. During the week, students were invited to explore the CSUN campus and interact with several campus resources to fill out their stamp cards. Thirty-four different centers and offices on campus joined the Badge Project for this year’s celebration.

Prizes for the Scavenger Hunt were given to Madeline Kao, Rebekah Carey, Geneva Miranda, and Therese Suarez.

The on-campus Transfer Table event took place on the 18th and 19th, and students had the chance to play Transfer Trivia, win prizes, interact with the peer mentors, and take photos.

On the 20th, the “Life After CSUN: A Transfer Alumni Panel” was held, where transfer student alumni Jeremiah Lyn Susas, Dianna Alvarado, Passant Shaker, Arin Alexander, and Edlin Labate—all members of the Badge Project’s first cohort—shared their stories of struggle, resilience and strength as transfer students at CSUN.

They also shared their experiences on how they reached their current point in their careers.

To the wrap up the week-long event, the Transfer Mixer and Game Night were held on the 22nd to let CSUN transfer students meet with and mingle with their transfer student fellows.

This year was the second time the Badge Project hosted National Transfer Week at CSUN. Moving forward, the Badge Project aims to increase collaboration efforts to bring greater visibility to the transfer student community at CSUN.
