AAIMM Breastfeeding Drive-Thru Event

September 8, 2021

Last August 21, the Northeast Valley WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) and the San Fernando & Santa Clarita Valleys African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Community Actions Team (SPA 2 AAIMM CAT) held their very first Breastfeeding Drive-Thru Event. The event was held in honor of World Breastfeeding, Native American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander, and Black Breastfeeding Week. Many families dropped by to pick up diapers, wipes, books, children’s clothing, gift cards, and toys for their children.

We at the HERE Center also participated in the event to introduce ourselves to families in the community and share our local resources lists with them. Aside from research and education, we believe praxis and community engagement are important when it comes to addressing health disparities in the San Fernando Valley.

Other participants at the event were the Health Opportunities M-Health Mamas Equity (HOMME) Lab, the Valley Care Community Consortium (VCCC), and MEND.

We hope to get more opportunities to meet with the community and serve them the best way possible!
