Faculty Emeritus Terry Sweeting Receives 2022 National Dance Society Scholar Award

September 21, 2022

terry sweetingIt was not an ordinary hot summer day in San Antonio Texas in July, because on this day, Kinesiology faculty emeritus Terry Sweeting received the 2022 National Dance Society (NDS) Scholar Award from the National Dance Society. NDS Awards Committee Chair Christa Davis informed Sweeting of the award. Davis is also Associate Professor, Physical, Life, Movement and Sports Science at Lewis-Clark State College.

Davis wrote, “This very prestigious award recognizes professionals for years of meritorious service in the dance field who produce scholarly/creative works of significance at the community, state, regional, national, or international levels in dance research, evaluation, professional writing, choreography, or other dance works. This recognition is a tribute to you as well as your school and community for their support of your professional endeavors. We applaud your years of professional work and service to dance and related areas.”

The Award was presented during the Awards session at the annual NDS conference on Dance in Broad Perspectives, which was hosted in partnership with the International Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Dance and Sport (IAHPEDS) World Congress. As part of receiving the award, Sweeting will continue to mentor professionals and contribute to the profession.

Sweeting's response: “Throughout my professional career in Teacher Education (Elementary Physical Education and Dance), my passion has been to connect with, contribute to, and learn from dance communities, especially at the national and international levels. The opportunities to exchange knowledge, skills, and ideas, has informed my teaching at CSUN and the privilege to guide and, hopefully, inspire, beginning teachers to see the value and necessity of quality dance and elementary physical education in our schools and communities. I am so very grateful to have received the Award from the National Dance Society, in recognition of following my passion!”
