Discrimination Impacts Health and Substance Abuse within Families

A new study, by Child and Adolescent Development faculty Virginia Huynh, suggests that the impact from an individual’s experiences of discrimination can spill over into their family life and lead to depression among teenagers and increased marijuana use by parents. The study, titled “Discrimination and health: A dyadic approach,” is one of the first of its kind to include Asian and Latin American families. It was recently published in the Journal of Health Psychology. Read more

The website study.com published its 2019 rankings for the best Health Administration schools in the US, and the CSUN Health Administration degree program offered through Health Sciences has been ranked #42. The site boasts over 40 million visitors monthly. Eileen Keenan: a CSUN-HHD Centenarian

Eileen Keenan lived through the Great Depression, beat tuberculosis before antibiotics were available and worked in the nursing field for more than 65 years. Keenan was also a non-traditional university student, attending in her late 40s and early 50s, when she earned her bachelor’s degree from CSUN, then known as San Fernando Valley State College. She is 101 years old and going strong. Read more
