Valley GO! Receives Grant from US Department of Veterans Affairs

Valley GO! was created to provide access adaptive sports for veterans and community members with spinal cord injury (SCI) and other disabilities. The CSUN program, in collaboration with the Triumph Foundation, provides an opportunity to move beyond the gym to a recreational setting. Valley GO! has received a generous grant from the US Department of Veterans Affairs to extend the program through 2020.  Funding will help pay for coaches, facility use and specialized equipment, such as hand cycles, adapted seats, paddles and water-skis. CSUN Athletic Training Students Ease Homeless Women’s Pain

Athletic trainers are health care professionals who most often work with sports teams to evaluate and treat musculoskeletal injuries. However, CSUN’s athletic training faculty and students look for opportunities to serve local populations who lack access to proper health care services. HHD Faculty Engage in Theatre Project to Promote Healthy Aging

The inter-disciplinary project, Stage for All Ages, involves HHD faculty Samira Moughrabi (Nursing), Stephan Chung (Health Sciences), and Joongwon Lee (Recreation and Tourism Management) in collaboration with CSUN Theatre colleague Ah-Jeong Kim and facilitators from CSU Long Beach. A collaborative project set in the discipline of Theatre, the project is part of a yearlong study to demonstrate whether older community members who took part in a theatrical experience had reduced feelings of isolation and depression.
