Students wishing to pursue certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
(IBCLC) must:
- Complete at least 90 hours of education in human lactation and breastfeeding within the 5 years immediately prior to applying for the exam.
- Complete course work in 14 health science subjects.
- Complete clinical hours helping breastfeeding mother baby dyads.
Students who successfully complete HSCI 434: Lactation Education: Prenatal and Perinatal Period and; HSCI 466: Lactation Education: Postpartum Period will have fulfilled IBLCE’s 90 hours of education in human lactation requirement.
