Pedagogy Fellowship Program

The Pedagogy Fellowship Program (formerly known as the Teaching Assistant Fellowship Program) is designed to prepare graduate students to be exceptional candidates for doctoral Teaching Assistant and Community College teaching positions. Fellows are selected through a competitive application and interview process.  Program training focuses on a broad range of topics including: teaching philosophy development, syllabus and lesson design, professional development and principles in advanced pedagogy. Upon completion of the program, Fellows are awarded a fellowship and receive a Certificate of Completion.

Things you should know before submitting your application

  • A cohort of approximately 18 students will be selected for this program.

  • This is not a course but an independent CSUN program offered by the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • The program consists of weekly meetings over the course of the semester.
  • Students MUST attend all sessions to be eligible for the certificate and $300 fellowship award.
  • Meetings will take place in-person on campus.

 In order to submit your application, please have the following items available:

  • Personal Statement addressing why you want to be a part of this program (limited to 500 words).
  •  Statement addressing why it is important to consider diversity when you are teaching (limited to 250 words).

Eligibility Requirements

Must have completed at least one semester in a CSUN graduate program.

Important Dates

  • Application opens: Monday, October 23rd
  • Application due date: Friday, December 1st
  • Application finalist interviews: Tuesday, December 5th - Friday, December 8th
  • Student notification: A notification will be sent to students after the interview process has been completed.
  • Program begins: Students will be notified once the selection process is complete.

What must you do if chosen to participate in this program?

  • Attend weekly meetings
  • Attend a teaching workshop (e.g. Graduate Studies, Library, Faculty Development, etc.)
  • Compose a teaching statement
  • Engage in teaching experiences
  • Give a 10-minute teaching demo
  • Complete a pre- and post-survey relating to the program

Application Details

Only completed applications will be considered. A completed application consists of your application submission and your faculty reference. Both must be completed by the application due date Wednesday, November 22nd.
