Parent Advocate Training

Program Description:
 Have you ever left your child’s IEP meeting crying?
 Do you want to leave an IEP meeting feeling like a winner?
 Do you want to be empowered to help kids with special needs?
In this course, individuals gain the knowledge and skills to enhance their ability to advocate for their own children and to support other parents of children with disabilities in the special education process. (This course is divided into 6 sessions).
Training Topics Include:
Session 1: Special Education Rights and Responsibilities
Session 2: School Based Mental Health Services – ERMHS
Session 3: Advocacy to Stop Inappropriate Discipline
Session 4: Individualized Transition Plans (ITP’s )
Session 5: Due Process Complaints, Compliance Complaints and Discrimination Complaints with Office of Civil Rights
Session 6: Advocacy Skills Preparation
