The overall purpose of the proposed Leadership Training Program in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Nutrition is to improve the quality and appropriateness of services, particularly in the Western states, consistent with the nutrition and MCH objectives in Healthy People 2020 and the rapidly changing needs of the population in this part of the country. This program develops
leadership, advances scholarship and promotes partnerships to achieve this purpose through the MCH Nutrition Leadership Training Program at UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health (FSPH) in collaboration with its Partners, the Universities of Washington (UW), Colorado State University (CSU), and Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). Since 1993, we have supported 86 long-term trainee registered dietitians, 75% of whom have remained working in the field of MCH. Since 2000, 115 leaders from the 13 Western States have participated in our annual 2-day continuing education (CE) event, the Nutrition Leadership Network (NLN) - a number of whom have held leadership roles in the Association of State and Public Health Nutritionists (ASPHN) and the associated MCH Council since its inception.
