EO 1100R Timeline

March 2017: Chancellor’s Office distributed earlier EO 1100 (February 16, 2015) to campuses for comment and consultation regarding potential revision.
August 23, 2017: The revised EO 1100R (August 23, 2017) distributed to campuses.
August 25, 2017: Meeting of Provost, Deans, Associate Deans, and AVP Student Success with Department Chairs with courses in Section F.
August 31, 2017: Follow-up meeting outlining the “overlay” proposal with Provost, Deans, Associate Deans, AVP Student Success and Department Chairs with courses in Section F.
September 18, 2017: Follow-up meeting with a request for alternative solutions to the “overlay” proposal to save the enrollment in Section F (Provost, Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, AVP, Student Success).
September 28, 2017: Faculty Senate Meeting
  • Senate Passes Resolution to refuse participation implementation of Exec Order 1100
    • MSP: The Faculty Senate of CSU Northridge and its Standing Committees will not participate in the implementation of Executive Order 1100 (revised) and Executive Order 1110.
October 26, 2017: Faculty Senate Meeting
  • President informs Faculty Senate of CO concession to allow CSUN to maintain Section F;
  • Senate votes to not Reconsider the previously passed motion to not participate in the implementation of EO 1100R;
November 21, 2017: CSUN receives formal notice from the Chancellor’s Office that we can maintain Section F and have a one year extension on the use of upper division E courses.
February 9, 2018: President Harrison, in consultation with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, establishes GE Task Force.
  • Purpose: “Recognizing our students' needs, challenges and goals, the Task Force will make recommendations concerning our GE program that advance student success through quality education while maintaining our cross-cultural competency requirements (Section F of current GE Plan) and aligning with the California Education Code.” Task Force Members were initially identified and invited by President Harrison in consultation with Senate Executive Committee, and additional members were identified and invited by the co-chairs in consultation with faculty, staff and students. The goal was to provide balanced representation across stakeholders on campus.
  • GE Task Force meetings: Feb 9, March 9, April 9, April 27, May 11
May 29, 2018: GE Task Force releases final report.
August 15, 2018: Meeting between Campus and Chancellor’s Office Representatives.
  • Representatives from the Chancellor’s Office met with President Harrison, Faculty President Mary Pat Stein, Interim Provost Theodoulou, and several members of Senate Executive Committee
August 16, 2018: Chancellor’s Office issues memo giving CSUN until Fall 2019 to come into compliance with EO 1100R.
Next Steps: Faculty Senate Executive Committee is currently reviewing options on how we might move forward.
