The MSEM department is home to three dynamic graduate programs - Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, and Materials Engineering - that are designed to prepare students for leadership and innovation in manufacturing as well as a range of service industries.
The Manufacturing Systems Engineering graduate program equips students with the knowledge to design, analyze, and optimize complex manufacturing processes by learning industry-relevant skills such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Robotics, Smart Manufacturing, and Additive Manufacturing.
Our Engineering Management program, which has two options - the general option and the data analytics option - blends technical expertise with strategic leadership skills, empowering professionals to manage engineering teams, projects, and operations effectively in both established companies and entrepreneurial ventures. Students in both options learn core skills related to engineering management such as decision analysis, engineering economics, entrepreneurship for high-tech ventures, operations management, and leadership in technical organizations. Students who opt for the general option learn a broader set of skills, including project management, sustainability, supply chain management, quality management and Six Sigma. Students who opt for the data analytics option are given an introduction to data analytics for engineering managers and then undertake projects, learning SQL as well as data visualization, and a course on Python programming for data analysis.
The Materials Engineering program dives into the science and engineering of materials - metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites - that are foundational to innovations in aerospace, biomedical devices, energy systems, and practically for all products in various industries. Students learn industry relevant skills such as mechanical behavior of materials, failure analysis, phase transformations and corrosion.
