Curricular Practical Training (CPT):

If you are interested in applying for a Curriculum Practical Training (CPT), you are asked to review important CPT information in the CSUN International Students page by clicking here. It is in your best interest to attend a CPT Webinar where many of your questions will be answered. Click here to sign up to attend a CPT Webinar.

To be eligible to apply for CPT, you must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be in your program for one academic year (2 semesters) prior to applying for CPT. Note that our M.S. Engineering Management, M.S. Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and M.S. Materials Engineering programs don’t require immediate participation in a paid internship. Thus, no MSEM student is eligible for CPT in their first semester.
  • Enroll in an internship class, MSE 494A (1 unit) in the semester that you will do your internship. Please send an email to msem@csun.edu a to request for a permission number to enroll.
  • Obtain an Internship Offer Letter from the company where you will do the internship. Please make sure your job is in your program field of study.
  • Fill out the CPT Request Form. You fill out and sign section one, then send it to msem@csun.edu a with your internship offer letter attached. The MSEM Department Chair reviews your application and completes the second section. The MSEM department sends signed CPT request form and internship offer letter to iescrequest@csun.edu.

IESC will take approximately 3 weeks to process this type of request. Once the process is completed, an electronic CPT I-20 will be scanned to you authorizing you to do the paid internship.
