Deaf Studies Trip to Cape Town, South Africa

The Deaf Studies department went to Cape Town, South Africa June 17-July 3. We spent two weeks learning South African Sign Language, visiting Deaf schools and businesses, exploring museums such as the Nelson Mandala Museum and the Slave Lodge as well as spending time with locals in Langa, a local township, and EDeaf, a Deaf vocational school. We have several exciting events coming up in the next 2 weeks in our college, including: a special presentation on “Unconscious Bias and Its Impact on Teaching”; our all college meeting with our new Provost; and our fall student back to school welcome event. This week, we will continue to offer 30 minutes of guided relaxation.
