Description:
Writing 8/9 seeks to review and expand upon foundational writing skills including poetic forms, narrative writing, explanatory writing, argumentative writing, and literary analysis. Students are exposed to a variety to textual models including songs, poems, short stories, visual texts, essays and articles in a fun and interactive format. They will use these guides to discover the traits of great writing and then will apply those structures to the creation of their own works in each genre. In doing so, students will develop:
Critical thinking skills
Evidence-based reasoning
Thoughtful speaking and listening skills
Purposeful writing structures and grammatical forms
The knowledge and use of figurative language types in the creation of imagistic writing
Peer revision and feedback skills
