Summer Academic Enrichment Program

Rhetoric of Online Media

Description Digital rhetoric is a way of informing, persuading, and inspiring action in an audience through digital media that is composed, created, and distributed through multimedia platforms. In a time where online media has taken over how and what we learn, students should be aware of the power that online media has on its audiences and how they can use this power and their voice to express their own messages in persuasive, academic, and effective ways.

In this class, students will have the opportunity to both evaluate online media, and create their own media with an intended message and purpose, using rhetorical strategies to express their ideas to a specific audience. By the end of this class, students will have the skills to evaluate the credibility and purpose of messages they read online. They will also be able to craft their own online messages with a better understanding of how audience, purpose, and choices within a message combine to affect a mass of online viewers.
