Navigating Online Media

DescriptionDigital Literacy is defined as a demonstrated ability to use technology to access, manipulate, evaluate, use and present information. In a particular time where digital literacy is essential, scholars should be able to decipher fact from fiction or opinion.

This course will teach the fundamentals of navigating the digital world by providing students with the skills of deciphering between reliable or fake websites and/or articles, evaluating fact versus opinion in online sources, and using online resources for information by providing students with specific online researching strategies. Students will leave this class with an understanding of the importance of online literacy due to the power that online media has on our society. They will leave with a toolbox of skills and understandings that will help them critically evaluate the messages they view online.
