SUN Program

Welcome to our College of Education Self-care Initiative, informally called Self-care for U at Northridge, the SUN Program.

It is so wonderful that you are considering self-care as an important way to care for yourself and keep balance and health in your life. Self-care means taking responsibility for yourself to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle at work and in your personal world through individually determined, proactive activities. You are at your best when you attend to yourself in equal measure to others in day-to-day living!

Self-care is an important concept that can be particularly relevant to Veterans on Veterans Day. Veterans Day, observed on November 11th in the United States, is a day dedicated to honoring and thanking military veterans for their service and sacrifice. It's a time to recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces. For veterans, as well as for the broader community, self-care can play a crucial role in acknowledging and supporting the well-being of those who have served. Read more

This week, many of us enjoy celebrating various fall festivals. Many families celebrate Halloween, which dates back to 1745, and means "Saints' evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day) “an antidote to fear.” Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, donning costumes and eating treats. Many families also recognize another holiday this week, Dia de los Muertos, celebrated on All Saints Day and All Souls Day, November 1st and 2nd. Read more
