Self-care during times of war

March 30, 2026

Dear College of Education Community,

As wars escalate in the Middle East, witnessing war-time violence can trigger anxiety, depression, and traumatic stress, and can have a significant impact on our quality of life as well as our physical health. Many of us are also actively engaged in activities related to these wars. This is a reminder of the importance to maintain balance and take care of ourselves at this critical time in our lives. As one way to do this, CSUN continues to offer the Calm app for phones and computers free for all CSUN employees, including paid student assistants. In addition to short, guided meditations, this app offers specialized music playlists to help with stress and focus, mindful movement video and audio, relaxing sleep stories, tailored content for students and for children, wisdom-filled masterclasses led by experts, and much more. To find out more:

If don’t have this app, activate your free premium membership to CALM and take advantage of this benefit.

And if you do have the calm app, please consider using it regularly to take care of yourselves!

For a list of other self-care options, please go to our COE self-care website for resources for faculty, staff, students, and the community at https://www.csun.edu/eisner-education/self-care/articles-information-self-care

Please take care of yourselves during these very challenging times!

Warmly,

Shari
