Counseling Awareness Month 2021 - Marriage & Family Therapy

March 29, 2021

Dear COE faculty and staff,

We can learn a lot about self-care from our colleagues who are counselors and therapists. As professionals, they know only too well that care for oneself must be a priority, especially during times of stress and trauma. As we continue to be impacted by the pandemic and anti-racism, our welfare must also be a priority just as it is for our counseling colleagues. Brittany Wong of HuffPost (formerly The Huffington Post) interviewed mental health experts to find out how they “are staying healthy, reducing stress and anxiety, and prioritizing themselves after the hell of 2020.” These strategies range from engaging in self-compassion to paying attention to pacing to not code switching any more, and can be of benefit to us all. To find out more, please read Brittany Wong’s article at https://www.huffpost.com/entry/healthy-habits-from-therapists_l_5ff4ca2ac5b6fd331111b426 .

For a list of other self-care options, please see our COE self-care website for resources for faculty, staff, students, and the community at:

Please continue to find the best ways to take care of yourselves in 2021.

Warmly,

Shari
