CSUN Reading and Literacy Certificate Program Wins Ballmer Group Grant

The College of Education was funded nearly $3.5 million through the Ballmer Group for the CSUN Reading and Literacy Certificate program. The grant covers the CSUN course fees for LAUSD teachers (preference given to primary grade teachers) to earn the Reading Certificate over the summer, then return in the fall for one additional class. This qualifies them to be recommended to the CTC for their Reading & Literacy Added Authorizations. Read more

Congratulations to: Victoria Berrey, Family Focus Resource Center, who was awarded the CSUN Community Engaged Staff Award; and Kelly Riese, Elementary Education, who was recognized for the CSUN Award of Merit. Welcoming Angélica Galván

Angelica Galvan

Angélica Galván is a new addition to the Counseling Program in the Educational Psychology and Counseling Department at CSUN. She completed her doctorate in Counselor Education at The Pennsylvania State University. Angélica has a background in clinical mental health counseling and working with students with disabilities in the college setting. She also has experience in crisis counseling and substance use counseling in English and Spanish. Read more

Jaclyn Kietzman

Jaclyn Kietzman is the Graduate Student Recruitment Specialist in the Michael D. Eisner College of Education. Jaclyn has served 14 years in higher education. She is from the San Gabriel Valley and is a proud first-generation college graduate. Not only is Jaclyn a homegrown CSUN professional as she received her B.A. in Communication Studies, and M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, she claims to be a Matador for life as her high school mascot was also a Matador. Fatmana Kara Deniz

Fatmana Kara Deniz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education. Her research focuses on three main areas: (1) understanding teachers’ perceptions of cognitive autonomy-supportive teaching, (2) investigating evidence-based practices to support the development of cognitive autonomy skills for children/youth with and without disabilities and for whom English is not their first language, and (3) training teachers to use evidence-based practices to enhance student cognitive autonomy skills within the MTSS Framework. Joshua Einhorn to Serve as Mentor for CAHSSA Mentored Writing Groups

Dr. Joshua Einhorn, Grants Officer, has been selected to serve as mentor for the CAHSSA Mentored Writing Groups in 2022 and 2023. His experience as grants officer, National Science Foundation reviewer, and Associate Editor of the Journal of the Grant Professionals Association qualifies him to serve as a mentor. Read more
