Join us this Spring for our FREE online synchronous Pajama PD workshops!

On March 9, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. is the workshop Unlocking Creativity: Exploring Odes Through Mentor Texts, with CSUN Writing Project Teacher Leader Keleigh Ferguson. Join us in this interactive session where we'll explore the use of mentor texts in the art of writing odes as powerful tools to ignite creativity in your students. Don't miss the opportunity to enhance your teaching repertoire and connect with fellow educators. Let's empower your students through the magic of poetry together. To register, click here.

Following on March 9, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. is the workshop Unleashing Poetic Voice: A Gamifying Strategy for Practicing Figurative Language, with CSUN Writing Project Teacher Leader Jacqueline Solis. We often have students practice figurative language through reading and annotating, but oftentimes students can be apathetic to these methods. This workshop focuses on reviewing figurative language through a game in order to empower students to produce a piece of low stakes writing. Participants will experience the game inspired by the famous card game "Cards Against Humanity", and discover how this game-based strategy can provide their students with an engaging opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of figurative language and dive into poetic expression. The next month offers three workshops, the first on April 6, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join CSUN Writing Project Teacher Leader Xochitl Bentley for her workshop Nature Poetry and Survival Instincts: Entry Points for Fostering Climate Stewardship. Poetry's ability to create "sense-ful" experiences helps educators foster Nature connection through place-based and memory-inspired means. This interactive, synchronous workshop will explore how poetry study offers entry points for cherishing and protecting the imperiled natural world. Participants will receive a mini-unit of curated poems and lessons. To register, click here.

Later that month are two workshops on April 20, 2024. The first workshop, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. is Daily Pages: Developing Writing Fluency and Writer Identities, with CSUN Writing Project Teacher Leader Samantha Evans. Samantha will share an engaging writing strategy for secondary classrooms adapted from The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. Daily Pages builds student writing fluency skills, asking students to vent in writing for the opening of class. It is a low-stakes writing activity that builds students' confidence as well as their self-awareness skills. All materials will be provided so that you could start using this warm-up in your classroom on Monday. Tap into your students' intrinsic desire to be a better writer and give them a safe place to find their authentic voice! To register, click here.

The second workshop on April 20, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., is Easy Artist Statements: A Teacher's Guide to Project-Based Assessments, with CSUN Writing Project Teacher Leader Mario Rios. An Artist Statement is a declarative statement about the reasons behind the themes and motifs of one's artwork. This engaging workshop is designed to empower your students to articulate their creative intentions and interpretations of key concepts within their projects. Through a step-by-stop process, students will develop the ability to analyze their work critically and engage in self-assessment. Together, let's inspire your students to not only create remarkable projects but to effectively communicate the meaning and significance behind their masterpieces.  To register, click here.
