The recent barrage of discouraging decisions from the Supreme Court as well as other national political actions that fail to recognize equity, access, and inclusion for all can negatively impact on our mental health and spirit.  It is important that we engage in wellbeing as we are affected by these political times, but it is also important that we view self-care as acting on political causes we care about. Please save the date for the What Really Works in Education 2023 Conference, a biennial conference sponsored by CSUN’s Center for Teaching and Learning, happening this coming fall. This two-day conference will take place at CSUN’s University Student Union on September 29th and 30th , 2023. The theme is "High Level Practices and Collaboration" and registration includes a free professional book, Connecting High Leverage Practices to Student Success: Collaboration in Inclusive Classrooms book that will be published in August 2023 with Corwin Press. The College of Education Equity and Faculty Affairs Committee hosted Staying on Mission: Race, Equity & Justice in the Midst of Polarizing Politics, a presentation by Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings on April 19. Gloria Ladson-Billings is an American pedagogical theorist and teacher educator known for her work in the fields of culturally relevant pedagogy and critical race theory, and the pernicious effects of systemic racism and economic inequality on educational opportunities.
