Global Youth Leaders "Uplifting Humanity"

Four CSUN students (Melissa Baghoumian, Jocelyn Lagunas, Sergio Lopez, Gabriela Mahgerefteh) were awarded the prestigious, national award “Luce 24 under 24” at a ceremony in New York City on November 7, 2023. The J. Luce Foundation issues the award to “the brightest young global leaders” who are “innovators and game changers.” The foundation empowers young leaders to “better humanity” with “honor, intelligence, benevolence, and integrity.” Read more

International Week of Deaf People, also known as Deaf Awareness Week, is an initiative that was established by World Federation of the Deaf and first launched in Rome, Italy in 1958. The goal of the initiative is to celebrate Deaf people. This celebration takes place annually in September. The theme for 2023’s International week of Deaf People is A World Where Deaf People Everywhere Can Sign Anywhere. In support of International Week of Deaf People, the Michael D. Eisner College of Education and the department of Deaf Studies is proud to highlight Kaila Cruz, one of our all-star students majoring in Deaf Studies.  Read more

Eisner College Receives $400k Grant From Eisner Foundation

We are excited to share that the Eisner College has received a general operating grant in the amount of $400,000 over the next two years to serve the diverse educational needs of the Eisner college, local region and beyond! This is the third grant of it’s amount and kind that we have received from the Eisner Foundation, totaling $1.2 million to support essential programs in the college. Education Grad Student Wins Top Scholarship from CSU Trustees

College of Education student Tania Parker (Master of Arts in Early Childhood Educational Psychology) was awarded the 2023 Outstanding Graduating Senior Award at the Honors Convocation by the CSU Trustees. Deaf Studies Hosts New Student Orientation

The Department of Deaf Studies was excited to host the very first New Student Orientation Event for incoming first time freshman and transfer students on August 22, 2023. This event gave students the opportunity to meet Deaf Studies Faculty and Staff as well as learn about the department and what to expect as new students at CSUN. The orientation included an amazing alumni panel, students were able to take a tour of the University Library and attended presentations on advisement, career pathways and best research practices to have a successful journey here at CSUN! Colleen Smith is a new faculty member in the Department of Special Education. Colleen graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. with a B.A. in Communication Arts, San Diego State University with a M.A. in ASL-English Multicultural Education, and Claremont Graduate University-SDSU with a Ph.D. in Education- Policy Studies in Language & Cross-Cultural Education. Introducing Shereen Alison

Shereen Allison

Dr. Shereen Allison is a new faculty member in the Educational Psychology & Counseling department. She is a life-long learner with a passion for education, having experience as an instructor, researcher, pioneer in distance education, and as a Licensed Educational Psychologist.  With degrees in both Educational Psychology and School Psychology, her focus has been on the application of cognitive, social, and school neuropsychology to assessment, instructional practices, supports, teacher training, and parent involvement. Current areas of research interest include universal design, universal screening, and the use of RTI/MTSS models of support for student success across a range of learning disabilities, with specific focus in the area of dyslexia.
