Expository Reading and Writing Course

What: A three day Open Institute for 7th and 8th grade English teachers that will help you gain the knowledge and acquire the materials to teach the newly released ERWC modules for 7th and 8th grades. The three-day series includes access to ERWC materials for grades 7 and 8, provides you with a theoretical understanding of the ERWC, outlines the benefits of the course for students and school personnel, and offers pragmatic, teacher-tested strategies for using the course materials to teach each module.

Chosen module topics and readings are high interest and engaging for middle school students.

The 7th Grade Modules are: 1. What It Takes to Be Great; 2. Tap vs. Bottled Water; 3. Helicopter Parents; and 4. The Impact of Celebrities.

The 8th Grade Modules are: 1. Social Networking or Antisocial Networking; 2. When Is Lying Okay?; 3. Robots in School; and 4. The Construction of a College Experience.

When: Wednesday, October 3rd, Wednesday, October 10th, and Wednesday, November 7th from 8:30 (registration) until 3:00.

Where: The Michael D. Eisner College of Education, Room 1214-1216 at Cal State University, Northridge

How much? $350 per participant for all three days. $300 each when participants register in groups of three or more. Schools can purchase multiple registrations by using a P.O.

What else? Includes a Continental Breakfast, lunch, and all materials.
