Bilingual Authorization Program
Welcome to the Bilingual Authorization Program website. California State University, Northridge offers Bilingual Authorization Programs in Spanish, Korean, and Armenian.
To seek bilingual authorization in Spanish, Korean, or Armenian, you must meet the following requirements:
Take one bilingual methods class:
EED 525 Teaching the Bilingual/Bicultural Child in the Elementary School (3 Units), if you are a Multiple Subject Credential Student.
SED 525BL Teaching the Bilingual/Bicultural Student in the Secondary School (3 Units), if you are a Single Subject Credential Student.
Note: For Korean Bilingual Authorization, students may take a Korean methods class offered by the Asian BTEP consortium, if the above courses are not offered at CSUN during a given semester.
Take one culture specific class as follows:
For Spanish Bilingual Authorization - CHS 430 The Chicano Child (3 Units) OR CHS 431 The Chicano Adolescent (3 Units)
For Korean Bilingual Authorization - SED 516 KOL Seminar in Teaching the Bilingual/Bicultural Student: The Korean American (Online) (3 Units)
Note: Students may take a Korean culture class offered by the Asian BTEP consortium, if this course is not offered at CSUN during a given semester.
For Armenian Bilingual Authorization - ARMN 440 Armenian American Child and the Schools (3 Units)
Take CSET LOTE (Languages Other Than English) II or III:
For Spanish and Korean Bilingual Authorization - Take CSET LOTE III: Spanish or Korean
For Armenian Bilingual Authorization - Take CSET LOTE II: Armenian
There Are Two Paths for Bilingual Authorization
If you are currently enrolled in the CSUN basic teaching credential program, you can obtain bilingual authorization concurrently with your credential by meeting the above requirements.
If you currently hold a California Teaching Credential with English Learner (ESL) Authorization, you must apply to the University to obtain bilingual authorization and must meet the above requirements.
