Hollywood Shuffle is the story of an actor limited to stereotypical roles because of his ethnicity, dreams of making it big as a highly respected performer. As he makes his rounds, the film takes a satiric look at African American actors in Hollywood.

The Department of Africana Studies (AFRS) in collaboration with the Department of Cinema and Television Arts (CTVA) present the films of Robert Townsend, producer, director, writer, actor, and one of the filmmakers responsible for the renaissance of contemporary Black filmmaking. Mr. Townsend’s films will be screened on four Monday evenings during Black History Month, followed by a Q & A session with Mr. Townsend. Moderators for the screenings include Professor Nate Thomas, Dr. Sylvia Macauley, Dr. Frances Gateward, Dr. Theresa White and Dr. Dianah Wynter.

All films are free and will start at 7:30pm in the Alan and Elaine Armer Screening Theater in Manzanita Hall. Light refreshments will be provided after Q & A.

Please bring your ticket with you for entry to the theater and plan to arrive by 7pm or your seat may be given away.
