How To Use The Degree Planning Tools

To get the most out of the Degree Planning Tools, we recommend using them in the order shown below before meeting with your academic advisor each semester.

If you are a new student, your advisor will help you use the tools. Whether you’re a new or continuing student, always talk with your advisor before finalizing any decisions related to your major or graduate program.

Step 1: Degree Road Maps

The Degree Road Maps Answer the Question:

What courses are required for my bachelor’s degree?

Each major has a Degree Road Map, a suggested sequence of required General Education (GE) and major courses to earn the bachelor’s degree.

Maps are available for freshmen (4-year plans), transfer students (2-year plans), and students who have completed an Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T and AS-T) from a California community college.

More than a list, your Road Map helps you to:

  • Complete your degree within two or four years.
  • Take classes in prerequisite order.
  • Identify courses that satisfy both GE and major requirements.

You can be confident knowing that your degree requirements for the catalog year in which you selected your major will not change.

Find the map for your plan and major on the CSUN University Catalog Degree Road Maps landing page. No login is required.

Step 2: Degree Progress Report/Planner

Degree Progress Report (DPR)/Planner Answers the Questions:

Which GE and major requirements do I still need to complete?

How long will it take to complete my degree?

With DPR/Planner you’ll check your progress and make a semester-by-semester plan to meet remaining degree requirements.

DPR/Planner, which changes over time to reflect your progress, delivers two tools in one:

  1. The DPR Audit, to monitor your degree progress each term. In the audit report, you’ll see:
    • Any courses you’ve transferred to CSUN and where they place into degree requirement sections.
    • Degree and major requirements you’ve already completed and those you still need to meet in order to graduate.
    • A printer-friendly “export to PDF” option.
  2. The DPR Planner*, to interactively drag and drop courses into a personal, semester-by-semester plan for meeting your remaining degree requirements. You can:
    • Experiment with different "what if" scenarios and majors.
    • Import your plan from DPR to Registration Planner in one click.

*At this time, DPR Planner is available to undergraduate students only, but the Audit is available to graduate students as well.

Use DPR/Planner to prepare for meetings with your undergraduate or graduate academic advisor.

DPR/Planner Login:

DPR Questions and Contacts:

Please see the FAQs on this page.

    1. Whom should I contact about the placement of courses in my DPR?

That depends on the courses you’re asking about—GE or your major:

    2. Whom should I contact about technical problems running a DPR Report?

If you are having technical problems running a DPR, please complete a DPR Review Request.

    1. What is a Graduation Evaluation DPR?

When you apply for bachelor's degree graduation, you will receive a special DPR audit clearly labeled Graduation Evaluation. It will list any remaining requirements for degree completion.

For assistance, see Graduation FAQs or contact Undergraduate Degree Services at uds@csun.edu.

    1. Is a Degree Progress Report (DPR) a transcript?

No, the DPR audit is not a transcript. It is not intended to report your achievement to outside parties. It cannot be released to a third party without your written consent.

The DPR/Planner tool does not show academic standing (i.e., good, on notice or disqualified) and might not reflect your most recent GPA. To view your current GPA, log in to the CSUN Portal, select Academics in the top menu, then Advising & Degree Planning, and lastly View Unofficial Transcripts.

Step 3: Registration Planner

Registration Planner answers the question:

How can I arrange the classes I want into a workable schedule?

Once you’ve identified classes for the coming term, use Registration Planner to create your preferred schedule.

With Registration Planner, you can:

  • Import the classes you planned in DPR/Planner with one command.
  • Add breaks for work or other obligations.
  • Generate all possible schedules for desired courses in seconds.
  • Compare schedules side-by-side in multiple views.
  • Filter and search for online classes, certain instructors, etc.
  • Lock in a class section and generate other classes around it.
  • Check for course requisites and time conflicts.
  • Save favorite schedules.
  • Send a desired schedule to your shopping cart, ready to enroll.*

*Registration Planner does not enroll you in classes. You must finish by adding the classes in your cart.

Registration Planner is easily accessible in the CSUN mobile app!
