Potential Impact of Reducing Units - IMPORTANT
Reducing the number of enrolled units may affect your eligibility for financial aid, campus housing, international student status and more.
- Financial aid students who reduce the number of units or completely withdraw (including medical withdrawal) may be subject to award reduction, cancellation or REPAYMENT. Refer to What Affects My Aid.
- In addition, reducing units or withdrawing from courses may impact Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

Fall 2026 Update
- Sept. 11, 2026, 11:59 p.m.: Last day for GRADUATE students to drop or swap classes online using self-service registration.
- Sept. 20, 2026, 11:59 p.m.: Last day for UNDERGRADUATE and second bachelor's students to drop/swap classes or change the basis of grading online (see University Catalog: Credit/No Credit Grading).
- After the above deadlines, request approval to drop using the appropriate Late Schedule Change Forms (required).

A Financial Aid student who reduces the number of units or completely withdraws (including medical withdrawal) may be subject to award reduction, cancellation or REPAYMENT. In addition, reducing units or withdrawing from courses may impact Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Before changing your schedule, review Information Regarding Potential Impact of Change in Academic Schedule and contact the appropriate office(s) for guidance.Additionally, if you are a new or returning student in your first CSUN semester and you withdraw from all classes within the first four weeks, you'll need to reapply for admission to the university. - If adding units, check your student financial account in the CSUN Portal for a possible fee increase, including nonresident tuition if applicable, and the payment due date. If units increase to 6.1 or more, additional fees will be charged. Refer to tuition and other fees and payment due date. Note: Fall 2026 units added after Sept. 21 will not increase a student’s financial aid award; refer to What Affects My Aid: Enrollment Requirements.
