Introduction

There’s plenty to explore in the CSUN Student Portal! This How-To Guide provides a quick overview.

For a closer look at often-used portal modules, such as register for classes, update personal information, change major/minor online, apply for the bachelor’s degree and diploma, etc., visit the How-To Guides.

How Do I Access the CSUN Portal?

From a desktop computer:

  1. From any CSUN web page, select MyCSUN in the top main navigation (upper left).
  2. From the drop-down menu that displays, select the CSUN Portal link.

From a tablet or smartphone:

  1. From any CSUN webpage, select the sandwich icon in the top right corner. 
  2. When the menu displays, select MyCSUN to reveal the CSUN Portal link and links to other commonly used apps such as CSUN Gmail, Canvas and Zoom.

The CSUN Mobile App, shown below, uses the same technology that powers the CSUN Portal, which brings simplified, superior interactivity and experiences. You’ll need to log in with your CSUN user ID and password to use modules like View Class/Exam Schedule, View Grades and more.

The CSUN App is a quick way to check your class schedule and room locations or pay tuition and other fees before the due date.

Explore the CSUN Portal top navigation menus below.

In the desktop view below, your CSUN Portal home page displays four main sections:

  • Top navigation bar (at call-out 1 in the image): Five tabs with drop-down menus of your most-used tools and services.

And three main columns from left to right:

  • Column 2: Announcements and a Provide Feedback button. Your CSUN email address also displays with a myCSUNprofile icon link.

  • Column 3: Your Checklist with important Incomplete Tasks to do. For example, an applicant will see transcript deadlines. Current students will see registration holds if any.

  • Column 4: The Top Tools section provides quick access to often-used tools such as Zoom and transactions such as Enroll in Classes, Make a Payment and more.

Let’s start with the top navigation menus.

The Academics drop-down menu provides access to these services:

  • My Classes: Your current class and final exam schedule, grades and more.

  • Find Classes: Class Search tool and another route to Enroll in Classes.

  • Advising & Degree Planning (shown below): Find your academic advisor and the degree planning tools. View your grades or order official CSUN transcripts.

  • Academic Tools & Resources: Bookstore, calendars and more.

  • Additional Terms & Programs: Winter term enrollment and more.

My Finances provides access to these services:

Common Tasks

Make a Payment

  • To make a payment, under My Finances, select My Accounts and then select Make a Payment. This is where you can also sign up for the Installment Payment Plan and purchase your CSUN MataCard student ID.

Access Mata Money and eRefund Accounts

  • To access your Mata Money and eRefund accounts, under My Finances, select My Accounts.

View Financial Aid & Scholarships Tasks

Select My Finances > Financial Aid & Scholarships to:

  • Apply for FAFSA. Select Submit FAFSA. This will take you to the StudentAid.gov website where you can submit your FAFSA. There’s also a link to Submit CADAA.

  • Review your Financial Aid To-Do List to complete your financial aid file.

  • Find out how much aid you’ve been awarded. Select Check Awards

  • Find scholarships. Select Find Scholarships and you’ll be taken to myMatador Scholarships.

  • Choose which student loans you want to keep. Select Accept Loans.

Student Services is where you can find access to many of the services you use such as Information Technology or the Klotz Student Health Center. The menu also includes links to the Office of Student Success, the International and Exchange Student Center, and Veterans Affairs Education Benefits Certification, among others.

Life on Campus provides access to services used to enhance your experience here at CSUN.

My Menu allows you to customize your view by adding specific menu items. These can be the ones you use the most frequently or just ones you'd like to try out.

By selecting Add items to my menu, you can set quick links to items like the ones pictured below.

The Student Portal landing page is designed to showcase your most-used items. Use these shortcuts to access common tasks as needed. 

  • The center pane contains your CSUN Portal Checklist of priorities to be aware of, such as your enrollment appointment or any registration holds to resolve.

  • The right-side Top Tools pane contains icons and shortcut links to tasks such as Enroll in Classes, View My Grades, and Buy Parking Permit. 

    • To navigate to the SOLAR Student Center, choose the backpack icon.
    • For IT Help, select the IT Help icon.
    • To pay tuition and other fees, select Make a Payment.

If finished with your CSUN Portal session, log out using the person icon drop-down menu and select Tap to sign out.

The CSUN Portal is dynamic. It changes as you progress in your CSUN career. You may see subtle changes in available links from time to time. We hope you log in to the portal often!
