CSUN Ready

CSUN Ready: Free Course Materials for First-Time Freshmen provides students with free course materials for their Fall 2021 semester courses. Recognizing the challenging learning environment many students faced while finishing high school during COVID-19, CSUN will support new, incoming first-time freshmen by providing all required course materials at no charge for the Fall 2021 semester. First-time freshmen will receive an email from CSUN mid-summer with details on how to get their books.

Course Materials and Supplies

Recommended Course Materials and Supplies
Other “recommended” or “suggested” course materials and supplies are not provided as part of this program. These items can be found by looking up the course number on the Campus Store website (www.csuncampusstore.com) and purchased online or in-store.

Regarding Digital Books

How do I access digital textbooks (ebooks and/or courseware)?
Digital textbooks will be available for Fall semester beginning mid-August in your CSUN learning management system (Canvas). You will also receive an email from Brytewave to your CSUN email account with instructions on how to access those materials.

What is Brytewave?
Brytewave is a digital textbook platform. You can highlight text, bookmark, search, sort and take notes using Brytewave.

If you do not receive an email from Brytewave but believe you have digital textbooks, go to https://brytewave.redshelf.com and log in using your CSUN email address and your Brytewave password. If you do not know your password, select "Forgot Password" and enter your CSUN email address. Login details will be sent to your CSUN email.

Will students be able to keep digital books at the end of the term?
Many of the digital books are one semester rentals, so they would only be available to read during the semester. There are some publishers that provide more than one semester of access to their materials.

What if a student wants to print their eBook?
A student can print parts of their ebook, but the publisher determines how much of the ebook can be printed.

Is it possible for students to get a print version instead of digital?
Students should contact the CSUN Campus Store at campusstore@csun.edu for more information.

If available, print versions may be purchased for an additional fee. Please Note: Allow up to 6 weeks for delivery depending upon availability.

If you are a student with a qualified disability requiring print versions, please contact the office of Disability Resources and Educational Services at 818-677-2684 or email DRES for more information.
