VIDEO AUDITION INFORMATION

Camerata Strings

Requirements: Students must study privately with a teacher on their orchestral instrument. Most members in Camerata Strings have been playing for four years or longer, or demonstrate the abilities of a student playing for this amount of time. An appropriate solo piece chosen for an audition for Camerata would be equivalent repertoire found in Suzuki Books 2-5. Members of the first violins and cellos sections need to have the ability to shift into positions.

Scales: G Major and a g minor scale — Players should be able to demonstrate their scale 2 octaves or 3 octaves when possible.

Solo piece: 2-3 minutes of a solo piece of your choice — Please choose a piece that will demonstrate your command of tone, intonation, and articulation on your instrument.

CSUN Youth Symphony

Requirements: Students must study privately with a teacher on their orchestral instrument for at least 3-4 years. Level 3-4 repertoire is appropriate for your solo piece. Shifting experience is an absolute must for string players. Having ensemble experience from orchestras or school classes is a plus.

Scales: Concert F Major, E Major, plus g natural minor scale — Players should be able to demonstrate their scale 2 octaves or 3 octaves when possible.

Solo piece: 3-5 minutes of a solo piece of your choice — Try to choose something that accurately reflects your current level of technical ability and musicality. We are looking for musicianship, technique, phrasing, dynamics, rhythm, etc.

CSUN Youth Philharmonic

Requirements: Students must study privately with a teacher on their orchestral instrument. The Philharmonic is a highly advanced group performing the most demanding standard literature. Beginning with the 2020-2021 season, minimum age for the Philharmonic is 13.

Scales: Concert A Major, Eb Major, plus d harmonic minor. Players should be able to demonstrated their scale 2 or 3 octaves whenever possible.

Solo piece: An advanced level solo or part of a solo of your choice — 5 minutes of music. It can be taken from a concerto or work with piano if you wish. No need for pianist to be on the recording.
