ABOUT EOP DREAM Center:  The Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) at CSUN designs, administers, and supports programs that deliver access and retention services to historically low-income, educationally disadvantaged, first-generation college students; a population that not only reflects the diversity of CSUN’s feeder communities but also the diversity of the University itself. The DREAM Center supports, advocates and facilitates the mission of California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and EOP by providing resources, programs and services that promote and encourage undocumented students to seek higher education opportunities specifically at CSUN.

CLASSIFICATION: Student Assistant Class III

WORKING TITLE: DREAM Center Intern

SALARY: $15.00 hr.

  • Assist in the conceptualization, development, and implementation of programs and services of the DREAM Center
  • Represent and promote awareness of the DREAM Center to the internal CSUN community and external partners (training will be provided)
  • Help develop strategies to increase student participation in project events and programs
  • Work collaboratively with other student groups on campus
  • Host regularly scheduled office hours in the DREAM Center office to provide guidance and support for undocumented students and allies
  • Provide general office support: receive visitors, schedule appointments, administer and organize visitor intake forms, and answer incoming inquiries and make referrals to other departments, programs, services and off-campus resources (as appropriate)
  • Maintain updated and accurate records for project-related programs and services
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as typing correspondence and creating and revising flyers, forms, labels; file, fax, copy, scan and collate materials
  • Assist with daily upkeep of DREAM Center office
  • Develop ability to communicate difficult and sensitive information tactfully and diplomatically (training will be provided)
  • Committed to upholding an open communication protocol with DREAM Center coordinator and other interns (training will be provided)
  • Stay current with the changing legislative and policy landscapes at the local, state and federal level
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Ability to work well with diverse student populations, as well as faculty, staff, and off-campus partners
  • Previous experience working with immigrant communities or organizations preferred, not required
  • Good interpersonal, oral and writing skills
  • Office experience preferred, not required
  • Proficiency operating both PC and Mac platforms
  • Microsoft Office skills highly desirable
  • Upper division standing preferred, not required

HOURS:

M – F 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Occasional evenings and weekends may be required)

HOURS NEEDED:  Available to work 10-15 hours per week
