Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP)

Welcome to CSUN EOP

The Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) at California State University, Northridge designs, administers, and supports programs that deliver access and retention services to CSUN students.

EOP provides services to historically low-income, historically educationally disadvantaged, first-generation college students; a population that not only reflects the diversity of CSUN’s feeder communities but also the diversity of the University itself.

Featured: Remembering EOP Trailblazer, Margaret June Brown

Our EOP community is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of one of EOP’s trailblazers, Ms. Margaret Brown. From 1977-2003, Ms. Brown’s leadership and contributions helped shaped the program’s concept of peer advisement and peer mentoring, one of EOP’s core support services. In 1991, she also founded and organized the university’s first Black Graduation, which continues to be a tradition today.

She was a true example of what it means to be student centered. She was passionate about the program and its students, and was instrumental in demonstrating to others the true meaning of mentoring. She was honest, genuine and an activist at heart who always prioritized and advocated for students.

Prior to retiring in 2003, she was recognized for her mentoring with the CSUN Don Dorsey Excellence in Mentoring Award.

Our condolences to her loved ones.
