Tassel: GradPass, Tickets, and Name Verification
Tassel is CSUN's official Commencement platform where you'll complete everything you need for graduation. Through Tassel, you can record how you want your name announced at Commencement, claim guest tickets, access your GradPass, RSVP for your ceremony, verify your information, and receive important Commencement updates.
During the registration period, you'll submit the pronunciation of your name. After registration closes, an official name reader will create a final recording, which will be linked to your GradPass and used when you walk across the stage.
Through "Tassel" each graduate can manage the their:
- RSVP for Events - to confirm a graduates participation in ceremonies & events
- Name Verification - to confirm how names appear and are pronounced during your ceremony
- GradPass - is a graduate's credentials into ceremonies & events
- Guest Tickets - for family & friends
The drop-down options below provide additional help on navigating Tassel.
Graduates will receive a Tassel access link sent to their CSUN email account (@my.csun.edu). Graduates are strongly encouraged to set up their TASSEL account as soon as possible.
To get started, graduates should complete the following steps:
- CLICK: Click the Tassel link provided in the email
- PASSWORD: Create a password when prompted
- ACCESS: After creating a password, graduates will be taken to their TASSEL Graduate Homepage
That’s it. Graduates may log out or continue exploring their account.
Important Note:
If accessing Tassel in early March (which is strongly recommended), the Graduate Homepage will display one pre-populated event tile for GradFest. Additional event tiles, including a graduate’s Commencement ceremony and Honors Convocation, will appear as those events approach.
TASSEL HOMEPAGE EXAMPLE:

After logging into Tassel, graduates will be land on thier Graduate Homepage. This page displays all events and ceremonies assocaited with the graudate's account as an individual tiles or moduels. Each tile outlines the steps required to fully complete that specific event or ceremony. Events appear on a rolling basis, so not all ceremonies and events associated with a graduate will be visible at once.

- RSVP to the event
- Guest Tickets / Extra Guest Tickets
For Commencement Ceremonies
- Guest Tickets
- Name Verification Information including:
- Name Spelling (including perferred name if applicable)
- Phonetic spelling

As graduates complete event steps, the status will update. A green “Completed” indicator in the upper left corner of an event tile confirms that all required information has been submitted.
Name Verification
Students are responsible for reviewing and verifying how their name will appear in Commencement materials and how it will be announced during the ceremony.
Through Tassel, graduates may:
- Confirm the pronunciation of their name.
- Update their registered name to a preferred name for Commencement purposes.
- Review their information before the published deadline.
All preferred name submissions are reviewed by Commencement staff and must be appropriate for the occasion. Preferred names that are offensive, discriminatory, derogatory, or otherwise inconsistent with University standards will not be approved.
Please complete your name verification before the deadline to ensure your information is reflected accurately during the ceremony.
Why This Matters
Completing Name Verification is required to generate a GradPass and enables a personalized Commencement experience. Missing the name verification deadline means you won't be able to make changes to the name on your Tassel account. If you apply to graduate with the Office of the Registrar after the deadline, your name and major will not appear on the screen as you cross the stage. Instead, the screen will display "Congratulations, Matador!" while a professional name reader announces your name aloud.
Guest tickets will be distributed through Tassel. Graduates must claim their tickets by the published deadline. Students who do not claim their tickets by the deadline may lose access to their initial ticket allocation and may be required to submit a Missed Ticket Appeal. Tickets will be free of charge and will be scanned at entry to the commencement ceremony site.
Printing and Sharing Tickets
Once claimed, tickets will remain available in the graduate's Tassel account and may be printed, downloaded, or emailed to guests. Each ticket contains a unique QR code that can only be used once for entry.
Graduates are strongly encouraged to distribute tickets directly to their intended guests. The University cannot verify, replace, or guarantee the validity of tickets obtained through third parties, including tickets that have been sold, or exchanged.
If a ticket has been duplicated, shared with multiple individuals, or previously scanned for entry, it will be considered invalid. The University is unable to determine how many times a ticket has been distributed and cannot honor or replace invalid tickets on the day of the ceremony.
Guest Tickets for Multiple Majors
Graduates attending two different ceremonies will receive a separate ticket allotment for each ceremony. Graduates whose multiple majors are recognized within the same ceremony will receive one ticket allotment
Additional Ticket Requests
Additional tickets are not guaranteed and are based on venue capacity and ceremony demand. Following the Name Verification Deadline, the Commencement Office will review ticket availability for each ceremony. If additional tickets become available, eligible graduates will be notified by email and provided instructions on how to claim or request additional tickets through Tassel. Students should monitor their CSUN email account for updates regarding additional ticket opportunities.
Every graduate must have a GradPass to participate in Commencement. The GradPass serves as your official ceremony credential and will be used during graduate check-in and again as you cross the stage. Please keep your GradPass readily accessible throughout the ceremony.
If you have been invited to multiple Commencement-related events, such as GradFest, Honors Convocation, and Commencement, you will receive a unique GradPass for each event. Be sure to present the correct GradPass for the event you are attending.
Graduates planning to use their mobile device to display their GradPass should ensure that the QR code is clearly visible and can be scanned. Cracked screens, privacy screen protectors, low screen brightness, or damaged displays may interfere with the scanning process.
To avoid delays on the day of the ceremony, graduates are encouraged to either:
- Remove any privacy screen protectors before arriving at the ceremony or ensure their device can be scanned properly.
- Increase their screen brightness when presenting their GradPass.
- Print a copy of their GradPass prior to arrival, or
- Visit the Graduate Support Tent located on the Campus Store Lawn to obtain a printed name card.
If you are unable to locate your GradPass, assistance will also be available at the Graduate Support Tent.
To access your Tassel Account:

Graduates who have met the honors elegiblity requirements will automatically have their honors designation displayed on their GradPass. This designation may be used when purchasing honors paraphernalia at the CSUN Campus Store. Honors merchandise is available for purchase at CSUN Campus Store registers. Graduates will be asked to present proof of honors status, such as a GradPass, at the time of purchase. The Campus Store will also have a list of eligible honors graduates/candidates available upon inquiry.
Graduates with multiple majors can celebrate thier achievements at more than one Commencement ceremony, depending on how majors are assigned. In these cases:
- Graduate will have multiple Event Tiles/Modules appear on thier Graduate Hompage for Tassel.
- Graduates must complete all required steps for each ceremony or event they plan to attend
- Each ceremony will generate a separate GradPass.
Here are common issues with GradPass along with simple troubleshooting solutions.
GradPass won't pop-up or download
- This usually occurs when a pop-up blocker is enabled. Graduates should temporarily disable their pop-up blocker and try again.
- Steps on how to do this can be found here: https://www.csun.edu/commencement/graduates/resources
GradPass is missing or a step was not completed
This may include missing Name Verification or incomplete event steps.
- At GradFest - Graduats will join the standby line and a staff member will assist.
- At Commencement - Graduates will pick up a blank name card at the Graduate Info Tent located on the CSUN Campus Store Lawn.
GradPass event tile says "closed"
This refers to the Name Verification window. If the Name Verification deadline has passed you will be unable to make changes to the name on your Tassel account. If you apply to graduate after the Name Verification deadline, your name and major will not appear on the screen as you cross the stage. Instead, the screen will display "Congratulations, Matador!" while a professional name reader announces your name aloud.
