Enabling Widespread Accessibility with AI-Powered Captioning

Description
As many organizations are rethinking their learning models and shifting towards permanent remote or hybrid models in a post-COVID world, it’s important to ensure that media is provided to learners in the most efficient and effective way. Real-time captioning plays a pivotal role in increasing engagement, understanding and retention, however many institutions still rely on dated technology-only platforms that are inaccurate, costly and non-compliant with ADA regulations. This session will discuss the state of the captioning industry, as well as how it is evolving to better support all learners, not just those with learning or other disabilities. Organizations will learn best practices for enabling accessibility within any environment (i.e., in-person, hybrid, remote) through the use of captions, and gain an understanding of how technology is enabling greater inclusivity than ever before. Specific technologies to be discussed include: - Communication Access Real-Time services, which converts spoken audio into text in real-time. Smart AI technology has helped advance this capability by producing a highly accurate technical output that can be corrected in real-time by professional type-correctors. - Live, interactive transcripts and captions integrated with Zoom and other web-conferencing platforms like WebEx, Microsoft Teams and Adobe Connect. This functionality supports schools and enterprises by ensuring online courses are delivered effectively, comply with ADA requirements and offer better live video engagement. - Audio description technology utilizes professional describers to offer concise, accurate descriptions of everything shown in a classroom or workspace so that visually impaired or low vision learners have equal opportunities to participate.
